Lelia Mae was born August 3, 1928 in Charlotte Court House, Virginia and departed this life on August 14, 2019 at her home in Brooklyn, New York. She was the oldest of two children born to Alice and Frank Wilson.

Lelia’s entire career was in the health industry. She was highly respected for her knowledge and skills as a nurse. As a result, many of her friends and family sought her advice as their first resource for health care.

She was first married to John B. Brown. Two children Cheryl and John were born to this union. Her daughter, Cheryl, preceded her in death in March 2012.

Lelia married her devoted husband Cephas Clarke in August 1981. They celebrated their 38th anniversary on August 7, 2019.

Her family fondly remembers the many opportunities we shared sitting at the kitchen table with healthy portions of their favorite foods. She was an extraordinary cook, and we all anxiously awaited our favorite dish. When we think of these times, we can only smile.

Lelia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved all of the members of her family and made a concerted effort to support their aspirations. She was extraordinarily giving and never looked for anything in return for her expressions of kindness.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory a husband, Cephas Clarke of Brooklyn, New York, her son, John Brown of Silver Spring, Maryland, a sister, Rosa Waites of Bayside, New York, one daughter-in-law Dianne Brown, one son-in-law, Raymond Weston, three grandchildren, Dawn Brown, Jarryd Brown, and Brandis Ruffin (Willie) and six great grandchildren Janaya and Kanoni Wilder, Azariyah, Warren and Brielle Ruffin, and Layla Davy-Brown, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 26.6

We love you, but God loves you best!
