Obituary for Louis Rodriguez

On Sunday, September 20, 2020, Louis A Rodriguez of Howard Beach NY, loving husband and father of three children, passed away at the age of 91. Louis was born on February 15, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY to Pablo and Emily Rodriguez.
While still in High School over the summer months Louis was employed by The War Departments Military Sea Transportation Service as a Seaman. After graduating Metropolitan Vocational HS in 1947, Louis became a Merchant Seaman with the Socony Vacuum Oil Co. As soon as he returned from traveling all over the world, he was drafted into the US Army for the Korean War. Louis was assigned to the 26th Signal Construction Battalion installing Communication systems for the US 8th Army in Korea. After the War, Louis attended Manhattan Trade Center studying Industrial Electricity and became an Electrical Helper for the New York City Transit Authority. He worked for the Transit Authority over 35 years and eventually retired as the Superintendent of Electrical Power Department in May 1991.
Louis was a life member of the Catholic War Veterans, life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Life member of the American Legion. He served proudly as former Post Commander of American Legion Post #632, then as Queens County Commander and Adjutant positions. Louis volunteered at St Albans Veterans Heath Care Facility for over 12 years helping veterans. Louis was a staple in his community. He was often recognized by community leaders for his service.
Louis was preceded in death by his father, Pablo Rodriguez, his mother Emily Rodriguez, his brother Anthony Sierra and his sister Elvia Guanill. He is survived by his wife Providenzia “Dolly” of 44 Years of marriage, his sister Edermera Malavet, mother of his children Josephine Russo, Son Steven Rodriguez, daughter Valerie Leister, son Kevin Rodriguez, his Seven Grandchildren, Six Great Grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation be held on Friday September 25th, 2020 from 2pm to 7pm at the James Romanelli - Stephen Funeral Home 89-01 Rockaway Blvd, Ozone Park, NY
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 26th, 2020 at St Helen Church, 157-10 83rd Street, Howard Beach, NY at 9:45 am. He will be interred at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Farmingdale, NY
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation or The American Legion.
