Obituary

Michael Anthony Costanzo, age 71, of Queens, New York passed away on Wednesday April 29, 2020. Michael was born August 18, 1948 in Queens, NY.

On Wednesday, April 29, 2020, our family lost their hero to a sudden illness. Our world was rocked as we lost someone that was so loved, so revered and was so full of life.
Michael is survived by his fiancé, Theresa Barringer; daughter Jo-Anne Giuliani (Matthew Giuliani); daughter Adrienne Costanzo (Thomas Snyder); his grandchildren (Cassandra Giuliani, Logan Giuliani and Thomas Snyder) sister Alice Gioia; and sister Maryann Calderone. He is predeceased by his father Santo Costanzo and mother Maryalice Costanzo.
A veteran of the United States Air Force, Michael served his country from 1967-1971. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant and earned the National Defense Service Medal. His service to his country continued as Michael volunteered for rescue and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center in 2001.
A plumber by trade, Michael was a part of UA Local Union no. 1 for almost 50 years. Even though he retired in 2013, Michael couldn’t stay away from a profession he loved and returned to work just two years later. His union brothers and colleagues learned so much from him and some even referred to him as their “work dad”.
Michael was a man that never said “no” to anyone. He was a true gentleman, a great teacher, a constant jokester and a man that would do anything for his loved ones. He truly was bigger than life and his absence will be felt for a long, long time.
A private burial for Michael will be held at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, New York.
Our family will make memorial arrangements for Michael when permitted.

Michael, you were an extraordinary human being. We will miss you wholeheartedly. Thank you for always showing up, in every way possible. Our gatherings will never be the same again, without you there by my sister's side. You will always have a place in my heart.
