My dearest friend since I was 10 years old and he was 8 when we grew up together on 84th Street and spent the rest of our lives together in so many ways. We shared so many things it is difficult to name them all over a 66 year period. We were part of a group including my sister Verna, now deceased, her husband Jerry and my then wife Susan. I will never forget the great times we had hanging out and listening to music in his dorm on Staten Island. We rented places in the Hamptons yearly during the summer and eventually bought property together. He sold his property to me when he moved to his home in Forest Hills, but eventually bought a house in Roxbury where we also spent many great times and always looked forward to the meal that he had planned for a visit. No one could cook like him. I could go on for days about the great times that we shared. We even lived together in my sister's apartment for one Summer before we all rented houses together in the Hamptons. The news of his passing hit me like a brick. As I look at his smiling face in the photo here I simply cannot fathom the fact that I will never see him again. He was my friend. Perhaps one of my closest friends. Although we have been apart for the last few years and only stayed in touch via Facebook, I will miss him dearly.

Three or four years after I graduated Adams and went to the Army, I came home on leave and visited the school. In so doing I happened upon Richard. I shared with him that I had recently taken a creative writing class (in part inspired by my writing class experience with him at Adams). We spoke for a bit and he shared with me a text book on writing. I still have it and, until recently when i had to pack stuff away, consulted it for ideas.

He was a good teacher, with passion, who made an impact by teaching and coaching students, not just conveying a curriculum.

You, sir, are missed, will be mourned and remembered. Thank you.

Prayers of resilience to his family, friends, and fellow mourners. #RequiescatInPace
