Rowena Aquino

Maria Rowena de los Reyes Aquino born December 18, 1969 passed away on July 3, 2020 at the age of 50. She was raised by her father Rodolfo Manalac Aquino and her mother Leonida de los Reyes Aquino in Howard Beach, New York. She attended Our Lady of Grace Elementary School in Howard Beach, New York; Stella Maris High School, Rockaway Park, New York and graduated from Stony Brook University, New York with a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s in Environmental Science
Rowena’s professional career started at Stony Brook University working with Campus Public Safety & Security and then the Department of Environmental Health & Safety. At the time of her passing, she worked for the City of New York in the Department of Citywide Administrative Services’ General Counsel, Citywide Office Occupational Safety and Health (COSH) for close to 20 years.
She will be remembered as a beacon of hope, positive force, environmentalist, humanitarian and an enthusiast for the City of New York. Her relentless commitment to her faith, family, friends, colleagues and dedication to her profession was extraordinary. She was kind hearted, always thinking of others, free spirited, had a gentle soul and a smile that was contagious.
Rowena’s personal interests revolved around her faith, family, the love of life, philanthropy and environmental preservation. She enjoyed all types of literature especially reading books, fine arts, theater, ballet, travel, walking and listening to music. She was an avid spectator of sports, collector of coins, sports memorabilia, autographed books and hello kitty.
She is survived by her parents Rodolfo and Leonida Aquino, siblings Ryan Aquino, Roslynn Aquino McGrade, brother in law Jason McGrade, aunts, uncles, cousins and God children.
