Obituary

Obituary for Russell McNeil

Russell Augustus Lee McNeil
July 30, 1959 – March 27, 2020
John 16:21
A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child was born into the world.
Russell Augustus Lee McNeil was born to William and Geneva McNeil, July 30, 1959. They joyfully praised God for blessing them with their fifth child. They did not take lightly the responsibility that God had given them to raise Russell in a Christian home. He grew up as an active youth in the Bethlehem Baptist Church where he could be found in Sunday School, participating in the Easter and Christmas Programs, Vacation Bible School, and the various youth activities of the church. Russell accepted Christ in his life during this time as he had been nourished on the word of the Lord. Russell graduated from Marion High School, Marion, SC and then attended Morris College. He then enlisted in the United States Army where he served from November, 1979 until October, 1985 when he was Honorably Discharged.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Russell and Miriam Rivera met sixteen years ago. If you were ever in their presence, you knew without a doubt that their love epitomized 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. The love they shared with one another always overflowed onto others. It was not unusual at the end of a visit or a phone call to have them say in unison, “Love you, okay love you, okay love you,” several times before hanging up. They worked hard to share their love with each other, but also, with others. Russell and Miriam were best friends and confidents. They loved each other with the kind of love that is indescribable. Miriam will miss her husband, her “rock,” the love of her life.

2 Timothy 4:6-8
For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day – and not only me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
On March 27, 2020, around 2:19 p.m., the trumpet sounded and Russell’s soul was taken by one of God’s angels to his heavenly home. We are at peace knowing that Russell is resting now, reviving from his journey here on earth. We will now celebrate the life that was Russell Augustus Lee McNeil (husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend). Miriam will never stop loving her husband, and we are certain that Russell transitioned home with an endless love for his wife. His daughter Schatz (granddaughter, Taylor), were the other joys of his life. Schatz will hold dear to the memories of her father. Russell’s siblings, William McNeil, Jr. (Mattie), Priscilla M. Dawson (Clarence), Olanza “Donnie” McNeil (Stephanie), Diana McNeil, maternal aunt and uncle, Dorothy Canady and James Hall will always have memories of Russell that will bring both laughter and tears to their eyes. Step-children Cindy and Luis Cruz, Jr., sister-in-law Luz and husband Damien Grajales, will all remember Russell with the same fondness and love he had for them. A special love and bond flowed between Russell and his extended family members and endless friends whose love supported him throughout the past years. It was your love that lifted him every day. May God forever bless each of you.

I’ll Fly Away
Some glad morning when this life is o’er
I’ll fly away
To that home on God’s celestial shore I’ll fly away.
I’ll fly away, oh glory, I’ll fly away
When I die, Hallelujah by and by
I’ll fly away
Just a few more weary days
and then, I’ll fly away.
To that land where joy will never end, I’ll fly away
I’ll fly away, oh glory, I’ll fly away
When I die Hallelujah by and by,
I’ll fly away. (Alan Jackson)
